Error Handling

EVA Netmodeler has a sophisticated and robust error handling system. This is necessary to prevent failure in the highly dynamic and extensible system. If an error occurs, EVA Netmodeler will trap it. It then consults an Error Exclusion type to determine if the administrator has set up any specific behaviour in response to the specific type of error encountered. Such behaviours might include ignoring it, reporting it with a lightweight log entry, or logging it fully. It is also possible to generate an event and an associated action, such as sending a message to a support centre via email.

If there is no specific error behaviour defined, then EVA Netmodeler will produce an error message, or "walkback" in the browser to inform the user. Only basic information is shown in the browser report, but a link is provided to the full error log details. This information can be used by qualified support personnel to pinpoint the error. EVA Netmodeler will keep running and other users will not be affected.

Errors are normally recorded in the walkback log, held on the server. A utility is available from the system menu to view the list of errors and drill down to the detail of a selected error.
