Information Nodes (Infonodes)

Sometimes we would like to know something about the relationship between two items, rather than just that a relationship exists. An example would be where there is a relationship between a Resource and a Project. We might want to know when the resource becomes involved with the project, for how long, and in what role. These attributes could be held in a special type of item, which EVA Netmodeler calls an Info Node.

An info node is simply a type which is used in a special way. Within the definition of the relationship between types in the type browser (where we specify Legal Relationships), we can specify a related info node type. Later, when a user links two items via this kind of relationship, EVA Netmodeler will automatically create a uniquely named info node item associated with the relationship. The name of this item will be the concatenation (joining) of the names of the two related nodes.

The info node item can be edited in the normal way (especially in the Item Browser) to hold information about the new relationship. Info Nodes can also have defaults, so we could, in the above example, have a default role specified, which would be assumed unless the user specified otherwise.
