Compare Items over 2 Types

The EVA Netmodeler compare items tool is a facility that allows a user to compare items between two types that have the same structure. It is used during data migration or data merge activities where the same logical item has possibly been changed or maintained in two separate types.

Tool-CompareItems
The resulting display shows the items of the first type in the left hand column, and the items of the second type in the right hand column, together with the list of actions that are necessary to make the listed items of second type duplicates of the corresponding items of the first type. Items that are the same in both types are not included in the display. Properties that are not common to both types are ignored. The Updated On and Updated By properties are ignored.

There are three possible actions:

  • EDIT: In order to get the SettingValue property of the CBBackGroundColor item of the ArchieSystemSettings-Eval (second type - on the right) to match the same property on the same item in the in the ArchieSystemSettings (first type - on the left), it is necessary to change the existing ArchieSystemSettings-Eval.CBBackGroundColor.SettingValue. The action is therefore listed as EDIT in the right hand column. A check box in the far right hand column is used to indicate that this action should be performed when the Submit button is clicked.

  • CREATE: Similarly, as the item AdministrativeUser does not exist in the ArchieSystemSettings-Eval type, it is necessary to create the item. This is indicated by the CREATE action listed in the right hand column. A check box in the far right hand column is used to indicate that this action should be performed when the SUBMIT button is clicked.

  • DELETE: Lastly, the item Default(ArchieSystemSettings-Eval) does not exist in the first type (left hand column) and would therefore have to be deleted from the second type (right hand column) in order to make the two types equal. There is no check box in the right hand column, as this action will not be performed automatically by EVA Netmodeler. If so desired these items can be deleted manually using this report as a reference list.

The two check boxes at the top of the right hand column relate to the Edit and Create actions respectively. Use these check boxes to set the corresponding action either on or off for all the associated items. The default for both check-boxes is checked. In the example, the Create check box has been unchecked - this in turn unchecked all the check boxes next to the Create items in the report. Note that it is possible to uncheck an action at the top, and then override this on individual items i.e. invert the default action.

Click the Submit button after carefully selecting which actions you want EVA Netmodeler to perform by checking the corresponding check box in the right hand column.
