Search Knowledge Base

Invoking Search

Search can be invoked from the search button on the Top Navigation Bar or from the Main Menu. You can search within item names, item properties, associated documents, names of files within directories, or content of items within directories. You can limit searching to a specific type, or range over all types in the repository.

Provide Search Criteria

You will first be prompted for keywords to look for. This is normally a simple string e.g. "Wonderboy" but you can include multiple items separated by spaces, e.g. "Wonderboy meeting" - Note that the latter would match an item containing "Meeting with Wonderboy". Search is case insensitive, so it does not matter whether you use capital letters or not.

Next, you can choose to constrain the search to a specific type, or allow it to span the whole repository. On large repositories, we recommend constraining the search if you can..

You can then choose the scope of the search to include one or more types of inspection, including:

• Search on item names - looks in item identities
• Search properties - looks at the value of properties, including long text fields and HTML fields
• Search Documents and Templates - looks in the documents directories on the server for assets that contain the search arguments
• Search Filenames in Directory Instances - looks in locations specified by EVA Netmodeler Directory properties for filenames which contain the search arguments
• Search File Contents in Directory Instances - looks in locations specified by EVA Netmodeler Directory properties for files whose contents include the search arguments. Note that this can be an expensive (resource intensive and long) operation on a large knowledge base. Also note that the text is unlikely to be found if the files concerned have been compressed (e.g. with a Zip utility, or by Adobe Acrobat)

You can use whatever combination of the above selections makes sense for your search.

Note: You may not see all of the above operations. It is possible for system administrators to limit access to these facilities by user or user group.

Search Results, Item List

Search results are displayed as a list with hyperlinks on the item names. Click the link to drill down to viewing details for the item(s) of interest.

Display Item Details

Clicking the link for an item will launch the search results screen. This is normally the GIDE interface. This allows you to view properties of the item, perform editing, reset defaults, clone the item, navigate to related items, view associated content etc. as dictated by your permissions.
