Set Administrator Security

A knowledge of the EVA Netmodeler security concepts and model is expected for use of this tool. Refer to the Security Model section for more information on how the EVA Netmodeler security model works.

When Types are created in EVA Netmodeler, security structures are automatically set up. These include a link from the creating user to the Default item of the type, with default permissions allowing the user to access that type. The Type will normally also be included in at least one Domain. Permissions for users to access the type and its instances are normally managed through the Domain.

If maintenance, imports or security management activities create a situation where no user has access to a type any longer, then no one will be able to see it in normal browsers, or to set up further security permissions. If this occurs, then this tool can be used to restore a direct security permission link from the user to the designated Type, or to all Types. Note that this facility bypasses normal security structures, so rights to run this tool are normally severely restricted - e.g. to an Administrator or Domain Owner.

Set Security for All Node Types should not be used unless absolutely necessary, since it will create direct links to all node types, thereby bypassing the Domain model. If you do this, you will no longer be able to "turn off" viewing of types within Domains using Domain filters. Note: You can "undo" the direct permissions with the "Remove Direct Security Tool".

It is a better practice to manage security via domains, and ensure that each type is encapsulated by at least one domain.
