Graphical Modeler Client Requirements and Configuration

Browser requirements

Graphical Modeler requires a web browser capable of supporting the required Squeak VM (known to work in IE and Mozilla Firefox - refer to the section on Browser Client Requirements for more details) and a color display with a resolution of not less than 1024 horizontal and 768 vertical pixels.

The one-time installation of the Squeak VM requires the appropriate permissions to be set in the browser. The installer is an ActiveX control under Windows and an applet on UNIX. Note that the elevated permissions are only required for the one-time installation process. Thereafter the Squeak VM will run in the browser without ActiveX and / or applet installation privileges.

Web server & Network requirements

The applet file has a .pr file name extension. Network and web server must be configured to allow serving this MIME type to clients.

Squeak output on client workstation

A MySqueak directory will be created on the client workstation. This directory will hold files output from the Squeak VM including:

  • Images saved by rendering a model to .gif .jpg or .html
  • Debug log files generated by the Squeak VM

The location of this directory varies, depending on the client operating system:

  • Windows:
    • [System Drive]:\MySqueak\[User Name], where:
      • [System Drive] is the drive designated as the Windows System Drive
      • [User Name] is the Windows user name of the user logged on the the machine when the Squeak output is created
  • UNIX:
    • [Users Local Drive]:/MySqueak
where [Users Local Drive] is the UNIX user name of the user logged on the the machine when the Squeak output is created
